O Isuse poranenyj

Boh predvicnyj

This Lenten hymn is from 106 of Father Stefan Papp's Duchovňi Pisňi (1969).

The same two verses, in two different melodic settings, along with an English translation (O my Jesus, suffering) in the same two musical settings, were printed in Monsignor William Levkulic's collection, Hymns for Great Lent.

Sources

This hymn was included in the Užhorod Pisennik (1913) as hymn number 78, with 5 verses. Each verse had three phrases (although either the second or third might reasonably have been repeated).

In 1969, Father Stefan Papp printed the version with music and four verses given above. Father Papp's verses 1-3 correspond (closely) to verses 1-3 of the Pisennik text; while his verse 4 bears only a slight resemblence to the Pisennik's verse 4.
