Deacon Jeffrey Mierzejewski of the Metropolitan Cantor Institute compiled the above list based on articles in our diocesan newspapers and parish commemorative books, but it is only a start. If you know of a choir not on this list, it can be added!

For each choir in our church, whether historical or active, we would like to have the following information:

Name and history of the choir
List of choir directors, with short biographies of each where possible
What was the choir's repertoire? Harmonized chant or composed music, names of composers, favorite works(
(If choir books exist, a copy for the seminary collection would be greatly appreciated!)
Were any recordings made? (Again, a copy for the seminary collection would be invaluable; these could also be made available online, with the parish's consent)
Photographs or personal reminiscences

This information will be used to create a web page describing each choir, its history, and a sample of its singing where recordings exist.

Deacon Jeffrey Mierzejewski – mci@archpitt.org or (412) 735-1676 – can provide some basic information about each choir on the above list to get you started. We would be happy to work with parishes that desire to document their own singing history. The primary goals of this project are (a) to document our church's musical history in order to honor those who came before us, and (b) to use this information to help us foster and improve liturgical singing throughout our church.
