At Vespers

music (samohlasen)

There are six stichera at "O Lord, I have cried": three for the pre-feast, and three for the holy martyr.

Tone 4, special melody Jako doblja. The precious Temple is preparing to receive the Lord. * He is coming as a child, * and through grace He manifests himself to the faithful and God-pleasing assembly. * For that reason, we cry out: * You are the glory, the praise, and the adornment of my fulfillment, O Word. * You have been a child in the flesh for my sake.

The very splendid Bridal Chamber and precious Tent, * the holy and spacious Temple * is bringing the Lord inside the chamber of the Temple. * He solemnly betrothes himself to his precious Temple * which is truly the Theotokos. * She always prays that they who unceasingly glorify her * may be delivered from corruption and dangers.

We are now offering prefestive praise to Christ * and are glorifying his condescension. * As though with the hands of the Virgin, * we bring Him as an infant to lie in the arms of Simeon. * He calls all people in order to deify our nature * since He is our Benefactor and our Lord.

Tone 1, special melody Vsechvalnyj mučenicy.  O all-praiseworthy Tryphon, * you have been a very splendid partaker * of the incorruptible delights of heaven. * O glorious one, by your valiant struggles * you suffered martyrdom and were a witness to the truth. * Now implore Christ to grant peace and great mercy to our souls.

O most glorious Tryphon, * by the rays of the ever-present Light * you have been completely like the Light. * You overthrew every cloud of error, * and by divine grace you subdued the one * who kept the world in darkness. * Therefore, implore Christ to grant peace and great mercy to our souls.

O all-blessed Tryphon, * you have been made worthy of the joy and happiness of the angels. * You rejected the beautiful things of life, * and with the strength of your spirit you regarded all things as nothing. * O most suffering one, * you were martyred and now pray for our souls.

Glory – Tone 2.  0 all-blessed Tryphon, * you scorned the things of this earth; * you courageously hastened to the trial. * O martyr, you skillfully overcame the proud one by the blood of the battle. * You boldly suffered the passion; * now unceasingly
implore Christ our God to save our souls.

Now and ever – in the same tone. Today Simeon takes in his arms the Lord of Glory, * the One whom Moses formerly saw in the darkness * when he received the tablets of the Law on Mount Sinai. * This is He who speaks through the prophets; * He is the Creator of the Law. * This is He whom David announced. * He is awesome to all, yet He has great and abundant mercy.

The aposticha are for the pre-feast:

Tone 2, special melody Dome Jefratov.  O Simeon, receive the Lord of glory, * as you were assured by the Holy Spirit. * For behold, He now comes into the Temple.

Now you may dismiss your servant, O Lord, in peace, according to your word.

The only and most pure Virgin, * carrying in her arms the Creator and Master as an infant, * today enters the Temple.

A light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.

Great and awesome is the mystery of the plan of salvation * which embraces everyone and raises up infants, * since He is being carried as an infant in her arms.

Glory, now and ever – Tone 2 samohlasen.  The pure Virgin brings the sacred One * into the sanctuary to the holy priest. * Simeon extends his hands, * receives Him joyously in his arms, and cries out: * O Master, now You may dismiss your servant in peace, * according to your word, O Lord.

The troparia:

Troparion,  Tone 4.  Your martyr Tryphon, O Lord our God, * in his struggle, received an incorruptible crown from you. * With your strength, he brought down the tyrants * and broke the cowardly valor of demons. * Through his prayers, O Christ our God, save our souls.

Glory, now and ever – Troparion, Tone 1.  The angelic choir of heaven looks earthward, * peering down from the heavenly heights * to behold the first-born of all creation * carried into the Temple as an infant * in the arms of his mother who has not known man. * Together with us they are overwhelmed with awe * and sing a hymn in preparation for the feast.
